I recently had the privilege of working with an amazing CEO who needed a comfortable work-from-home space that would ignite her creativity. As someone who spends a significant portion of my day working from home, I know firsthand how important it is to have an organized and efficient workspace. Trust me; it can make all the difference in your productivity and overall work satisfaction. So, today, I’m excited to share my top five home office organizing tips that have not only transformed her workspace but also mine and can do wonders for yours too.
1. Clean and Decluttered Desk
Having your desk clean and organized will help you feel more accomplished and ready to start the day. To keep desk surfaces efficient and tidy, use a combination of desktop organizers. Before heading off to shop for organizing products, decide which supplies are important to stay on your desk. Having one too many items on your desk will take up valuable workspace. If you don’t think you will need to use them daily, consider storing them in a drawer.
To help achieve this streamlined look for my client, her mug was repurposed as a pen holder; I added a desktop file sorter for immediate action documents, and sticky notes are cleverly tucked away in this cute dispenser my client already owns.
2. Organized Office Supplies
Efficiency is key when it comes to office supplies. I sourced a practical desk at IKEA and made sure to add drawer organizers in various sizes to group similar office supplies together. Before you head out to buy organizers, measure your drawer dimensions to ensure that the products you choose will fit perfectly.
Don’t stress if not everything is placed in organizers. Items like hole punchers, staplers, and scissors can find their homes in the empty spaces within the drawer.
3. Utilize Walls for Open Shelving
If you’re running low on floor space, look to your walls for additional storage options. I scoured the room and found an empty wall above the printer that was perfect for adding shelves. By installing industrial-style black metal shelf supports with pine shelving, we not only added storage but also a modern touch to the office decor.
Open shelves are fantastic for providing quick access to frequently used items, but they can easily become cluttered. To avoid this, keep only the current and useful reading material on the shelves.
4. Practical Storage for Essentials
Finding the right balance between workspace and storage is crucial. Oversized storage furniture or too many inadequate storage pieces can cramp your office space and hinder your creativity. When choosing furniture, make sure it’s sized right for your space and consider how it will store your essentials.
I added labels to a modular storage chest to help my client easily identify where documents and office supplies should be stored and returned after use. This simple addition can save you precious time and reduce clutter.
5. Display What Inspires You
Last but certainly not least, make your home office a place that inspires you to be your best. Bring in beautiful decor and items that motivate you and create a sense of ease.
Consider adding colourful framed art, inspirational quotes, or a vision board to your office space. My client’s artistic collage of images on her vision board is strategically placed where it can easily be seen, helping her manifest her dreams into success.
Creating a tidy, aesthetically pleasing home office is the key to maintaining a productive and organized workspace. So, follow these five home office organizing tips, and you’ll soon find yourself looking forward to working in your beautifully organized home office every day. Here’s to increased productivity and a workspace that truly inspires you!
